I LOVE THIS PICTURE!

This is the hilarity caused by a beloved Uncle reading a poem - in the 'The Doric' - written by himself, mostly about the Bride...but with a bit about the Groom too, and how he'll have to put up with all her foibles now...and it was not all complimentary by any means.
It was also kept secret - in that no-one knew what he was going to be saying in advance (except me!).
I learned a lot about them as a couple from it - (perhaps even more than I wanted to know?) - and I had a good chuckle myself even though I knew what was coming, but as you can see, for those who all knew them well? it was properly hysterical.
We're not all lucky enough to have an Uncle Denny with the skills to write something from scratch for our family occasions, but it can be great fun adapting an existing reading to make it more appropriate, adding in names or events or habits or places that fit the couple...or their families & friends for that matter.
I am very aware that not everyone thinks it is appropriate to have folk falling about laughing at a Wedding, and I do agree that there is a very serious side to what we're doing on the day...but no life is all serious (I hope) and I try to make sure that any wedding I'm part of reflects the lives that the couple themselves lead, and if that life is full of laughter (and Doric poetry!) then let's make it part of the ceremony!
